Hi, I’m Kurt, son of Thor!

I’m a writer (burgeoning), an epic fantasy reader (avid), a Utahn, and a fighter. And I’m an English major.

Kurt Anderson

I’m actually a panda masquerading as a human.

Sadly, my surname does not follow the Scandinavian tradition and is actually Anderson, after a much more distant ancestor. But a little bit about me…I thought that I was a Biochemistry major, but last semester I discovered my true destiny as an English major. This has led to a whirlwind of change as I have redefined my professional career plans, but I’m ready to get involved. I love to read, mostly epic fantasy (Brandon Sanderson is a big role model), I’m learning to write and loving it. And I do fight, but not to kill.

I’ve grown up most of my life in Utah, with only a short stint in California (it was wacky). I hope that I can get to know many more people who share my irrational love of epic fantasy books, such as the Wheel of Time or pretty much anything from Brandon Sanderson. I love the classics, too, though I know far too few. You’ll have to bear with me until I can fully expound on the virtues of Milton or Virgil.

And that’s about it. You can amuse yourself by visiting my blog, which I recently made due to peer pressure AKA seeing everyone else on here with a blog. But I do try and talk about (semi)relevant things from a witty point of view.

P.S. I’m a rather eligible bachelor, in case you were wondering

P.P.S. That post-script was in no way influenced by prevailing social and cultural norms, or my mother. Also just in case you were wondering.

One of my favorite books is Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson’s Memory of Light.

Hello, I’m Brittany Rytting

I’m a hopeless romantic, an avid ice cream eater, a musician… and I’m an English major.

Look, it’s my face!

How can I put into words my passion for being swept away by words and music? The books I read, the music I listen to or create, and the words I write make up my very being. (Therefore, snippets of songs and random quotes will often spew out of my mouth when prompted by someone’s innocent comment.) I am a lover of literature and hope to be an author. Music and editing are my intended minors, so I’ve also been considering becoming and editor. I play the piano, flute/piccolo, guitar, and I love to sing. When I have time I also love to act, and I dream of being in marching band again. And when the weather is just right, I love to dance in the rain.

One of my favorite books is The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (and Brandon Sanderson)

I love books. I love reading books so much that I eventually figured I should probably start the long road to writing a few, although I’m at the very beginning. My favorite authors are Brandon Sanderson and Orson Scott Card, my favorite genres fantasy and sci-fi. It amazes me how well literature can connect distant, awkward human beings throughout the ages. Some of my best friends were discovered by finding out we enjoyed the same books. I enjoy memorizing pieces of old or modern poetry to casually insert into everyday life… Nobody knows how to romance like Shakespeare, so why not let him help me out? “How like a winter hath my absence been from thee, the pleasure of the fleeting year…” Big, fat novels with tiny print prove a fatal attraction, and if I’m not carrying one around with me at all times, then there’s a very good reason for it. Finally, I just love the blending of fascinating and unique ideas that proves timeless and infinitely shareable found in paper and ink. Books change and illuminate lives. I slowly wring out short stories, scripts, and poems for practice and fun every day, but my real baby is still in the works, an fantasy epic that I hope will delight everyone that reads it!

One of my favorite books is Brandon Sanderson’s Words of Radiance.

Please enjoy this picture of my face.

Ever since I was young, I have loved to read and write. I read so much that my mom had to ground me from it! I started writing stories when I was elementary school, but I just need to work on finishing them. Someday I hope to be a published author, and I am also investigating the possibility of going into editing and publishing. This being my first semester here at BYU, I am considered a freshman. However, I was able to attend a community college during high school (In Tri-Cities, Washington) for dual credit, so I already have my Associates Degree. I am excited to be able to jump right into my major with the hope of being able to keep up with all the seasoned writers!

Some of my favorite literature is Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson’s Wheel of Time series

Hello, I’m Jenna Kirchhoefer

I am a lover of libraries, chocolate, anything Austen, and ugly Christmas sweaters… and I’m an English major!

Jenna Kirchhoefer

No big deal, just chilling in my favorite yellow field in England.

When packing up for college, I brought ONE novel with me. ONE!!! Any guesses? Now, as a book-lover, it would seem rather callous of me to leave my other piles of books behind. Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up. As a member of an American military family, I graduated from high school in Germany. Packing for college with limited space therefore proved to be a bit of a struggle, and as it turned out, only one book could possibly fit in my suitcase. Have you taken a guess yet at what that book might have been?

Yes, it was a well-marked, well-loved copy of Pride and Prejudice, and the decision wasn’t a difficult one. What can I say? I have been an honest fan of Austen and her distinctive era ever since I can remember, and have always looked forward to pursuing deeper study of the English language and the literature that so defines it. Libraries make me go weak at the knees, and a sentence with innovative syntax just might make me swoon. 🙂 I also enjoy poetry and lyrics and write plenty of my own, and hope to be meeting many of you fellow English majors soon!

One of my favorite books is Brandon Sanderson’s The Way of Kings.

Hello, I am Camilla Coronado

I love to write like I love to breathe. Sarcasm and being in charge. I’m allergic to the other people and I’m going to save the world. And I’m an English major.

Hottie

“Writing” has been a synonym for “living” as long as I can remember. Sometimes I read until I can’t see anymore and then dream about it later. One day I woke up and decided to be an author.

One of my favorite books is The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson.

Rachel

It’s funny I’ve ended up as an English major, because I hated learning to read. Obviously I like it now, but only because my mom changed my mind. She taught me that by putting the words I was learning together, I could make stories of my own. She taught me to write, and it was magic. I loved everything to do with English after that. The promise of creating something new was the perfect motivation. It still is, actually. It’s why I’m an English major. That and I love to read (now). I think that’s about it.

One of my favorite books is Brandon Sanderson’s Steelheart.
